COVID-19 has thrown a wrench into everyone’s day-to-day work routine. With an abundance of information flooding the internet, construction workers have had to piece together resources to stay productive in an industry that remains in high demand. Fortunately, Trade industry leaders, Hope Renovations and M.T. Copeland have released a new series of videos aimed at getting straight to the facts to ensure those working in the field of construction stay safe during the ongoing pandemic. The newly released virtual training series focuses on the health and safety of those working in the construction industry during the Covid-19 pandemic, and also shows off the skills and bravery of some of the many talented tradeswomen that nonprofits like Hope Renovations are working with to keep boots on the ground.
Hope Renovations is a nonprofit focused on creating jobs for women in the skilled trades, delivering pre-apprenticeship training and real work experience in the field of construction. Excited to share their skills and passion for the trade, their all-female team is featured in these free training videos. “Hope Renovations is thrilled to lead the effort for this timely and important service to the community of trades professionals here in North Carolina and nationwide,” said Nora El-Khouri Spencer, Founder and CEO of Hope Renovations. “We hope that by harnessing the powerful storytelling of M.T. Copeland and the academic excellence of UNC’s Gillings School, we can help save livelihoods and lives in our industry.”
An advocate for professional development and the success of the construction industry’s workers, M.T. Copeland is a training provider focused on delivering online courses for skilled trades. “The global pandemic has completely changed how the construction industry goes to work. Building is a physical job, and tradespeople must work in close quarters with a revolving cast of team members and clients,” said Jordan Smith, M.T. Copeland’s head of education and a residential builder from Austin, TX. “Learning how to keep our teams and clients safe in this uncertain time is incredibly important and we are glad to make this training available to help the industry work safely.”
Construction has one of the highest rates of Covid-19 of any industry. Since the work is physical and must be done in person, working with several other people, it’s essential that employers and workers take all the necessary steps to reduce the risk of transmission. With these informational videos from Hope Renovations in collaboration with M.T. Copeland, workers and employers can find out more about how they can make sure they keep themselves and others safe while working.
They made sure to cover all facets of the industry, providing two videos: one targeted towards trades professionals and the other towards those in management positions. The content has been developed by experts in the field of occupational health and safety based on the most up-to-date and reliable information on Covid-19 and is sure to be a valuable shared resource amongst construction workers, businesses, and providers seeking dependable information regarding the best practices during this difficult time.
